I’m a do-it-yourself homeowner, not a professional, but I found this book to be a great resource as I plan out my house. “Scientific” enough to let me understand why color combinations work as they do (and help me design my own schemes) while still completely clear to the lay person. If you’re serious about understanding color, this is an extremely useful book.

As a lay person just interested in learning more about the use of color in interior design, this was an excellent book. While the first several chapters were very “text bookish”, the remainder was very layman friendly. I feel more confident in undertaking color projects in my home and in conversing about the use of color with friends, who are now asking my opinions. The chapters that helped me the most were on the color wheel and color relationships. I enjoyed it and will now pursue my interest in color and design.

I’m addicted to coffee table books on home design, and I usually love kitchen design books- my all-time favorite book which I took on vacation and also recommended to my book club was “Great Kitchens”. I think that this book overpromised. Johnny Grey stated that he’s “reinventing kitchen design”. The reinvemtion is his trademark style of semi-circle curved cabinets and round and oval islands. The workmanship on these curved units is amazing and the photographs do them full justice. I was wondering where in the world a person would have curved cabinetry custom made…and lo! The cabinetry is available through “The Grey Guild”. Johnny Grey is the only kitchen designer featured in this book, which is terrific is you’re an ardent fan. I found that I was not a fan (yawn), seen one and you’ve seen the unique, all of the rest is style differences. The book, to me, was a shameless sales job for Johnny Grey and his organization. I would have given the book a “2″ rating, but the section on kitchen ergonomics at the back redeemed this book a little, in my opinion (finally something useful!). I do design, build, and live with new kitchens, as my husband and I are owner builders and rennovators. His kitchen designs would be a pleasure to cook in (for the most part), but the curved cabinetry would blow up my largest kitchen budget before appliances were purchased. These kitchens belong in multi-million dollar homes and they aren’t a reasonable design choice for even a million dollar home building budget. The money spends quickly in homebuilding, and a large part of the house budget is gone before the house is finished enough for kitchen purchases. In my expereince the kitchen budget receives the most scrutiny and is the source of most budget arguements. These “Grey” kitchens would pass muster only in a project where money was no object and the budget had no ceiling.

The best kitchen design book I have ever seen. Grey has spent time evaluating the ergonomics of the kitchen from the proper height for the oven door, space between various dedicated work surfaces to raising the dish washer 14 inches so you never have to bend over to put your dishes in to be cleaned. It makes so much sense and the designs are diversifed from modern to classic traditional – and they are just beautiful! He is ecologically mindful and his advice from floors to counter tops to appliances was eye opening for me and very practical. I am designing my new kitchen based on his recommendations. The best news is it will work for me now with kids and still work for me when I am 75 yeras old thanks to the ergonomic design.

My husband and I need to update our kitchen. I am a librarian so I have access to a lot of books on kitchen design, but this was by far my favorite, so much so that I bought my own copy. What an innovative way to look at a kitchen! By using bright colors and soft curves, Johnny Grey has opened my eyes to what an inviting space a kitchen can be for my family and I look forward to integrating his concepts into our eventual design.

Kitchen Culture: Re-inventing Kitchen Design, does exactly this. It takes those obscure thoughts and whimsys’ and shows you it can be done. I showed this to a cabinet maker friend who was very impressed and he said that you could achieve this using cheaper materials if you so wished. He was not daunted by the fact that it was built by an English master craftsman, it merely removed obstacles that shapes can produce. This book fits my “whimsy” well, read enjoy and create.

I read bad reviews of people getting damaged products from AAA Furniture store. I took a risk because of the good price at the time and the risk paid off. No scratches or chips. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. It was easy to assemble, suprisingly sturdy, and the perfect size for a desk top. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it because the wood looks rich and classy.

Over all was way to expensive for how it looks, local store has same table for $100 less. Looks okay, but not for $250 , I would expect a nicer piece, would have bought the matching hall table , but not now, will buy from local store

Well, I ordered this table and got it on time (almost). Well I’m still waiting for the screws and stuff that attach the lower shelf to the rest of the table. This is more than a month after making the order. The rest of the table is good, solid and very handsome.

Great little table. There was a ding on the front edge from shipping, but it was minimal. You will need small hands to get in to tighten leg screws during assembly.

I like the table a lot. It’s just what I expected it to be. My problem is with the paint. I ordered black, what I got was antique black. Apparently that means black but with a not so great paint job. I’ve decided to keep it and repaint it to match some speakers in the room, so in my case it will actually work out better, but be warned.

This gorgeous book starts with several pages of basic and general

assembly instructions. However, each model includes detailed

construction directions, along with detailed notes and statistics about

the real structures. There are, of course, photos of the buildings and,

excellent-quality full-page photos of the completed OA models.
Good origamic architects clearly had a hand in the book design. Being hard-covered spiral-bound, it lays nice and flat. Pattern pages collected in the back of the book are perforated for easy removal.
All three authors have announcements on their sites with additional

details, including lists of all the patterns in the book.

Sacramento Book Review:
I was first impressed with the high quality of this book; it is durable… made for families to use for fun and thought-provoking projects. Who knew that cutting and folding paper in classically designed buildings could be such quiet fun?
The only drawback to the book is that the projects encased therein require a trip to an office supply store, for not everyone has 65# cardstock lying around. The upside is that one can purchase the items necessary for $30 and use them for all the `buildings’. Our three oldest children at first thought paper would be `boring’ to play with but soon they were folding, scoring and cutting under the watchful eye of mom and dad… quietly. There are so many kid activities which generate noise and energy, but this proved to be a calm way to spend an hour, not to mention it’s an introduction to the basic elements of architecture.
We were able to copy the templates onto the cardstock with little trouble. The directions were slightly vague but the accompanying pictures make up for this, along with well-backlit snapshots of the finished product. Our `Parthenon’ came out nicely for an initial foray into origami architecture.

The three contributors provide great models (especially Ingrid Siliakus), and these are augmented nicely with background on the source architecture itself. The models are a wonderful distraction to build, too. I’ve done eight already (see youtube/user/jthor54, all from this book). Highly recommended as a gift for any architecture buff.

Bought three of these (one of each color), seem like a standard child’s chair. As inexpensive or moreso than local availability (local was sold out for us). My 1 year old has a bit of trouble climbing in and out of it (but what can you expect?) but my 2.5 year old does great with it, seems like it would fit a child up to 7. (I’ve got a tall 4.5 year-old, he fits it with room to grow).

Okay quality chair, but it was pretty inexpensive, so I didn’t expect much. I bought it because it has a lock and it was quite a bit less expensive vs. similar products. Quality was about what I expected for the price, but a couple of the screws that hold the fabric to the aluminum frame fell out. They are sheet metal screws, so I re-installed them, but they were still pretty loose. Not critical, but shows they are not top quality.
